The Technics SL-1600 is a highly regarded, fully automatic direct-drive turntable originally released in Japan in 1976. Prized by vintage audio enthusiasts for being "built like a tank," it combines the reliable high-torque motor technology of the legendary manual Technics SL-1200 with convenient automated playback features.

Key Specifications
According to the original Technics SL-1600 Owners Manual and technical documentation, the original Mk1 model features the following specifications:
• Drive System: B/FG Servo Brushless DC Motor (Direct Drive) using an AN630 one-chip IC.
• Speeds: 33-1/3 and 45 rpm with a pitch control range of ±10% (independent per speed).
• Wow & Flutter: 0.025% WRMS, providing exceptional speed stability.
• Rumble: -73 dB (DIN B), minimizing background mechanical noise.
• Tonearm: Static-balanced universal S-shaped gimbal suspension arm with an effective length of 230mm.
• Chassis: 100% die-cast aluminum base combined with a double-insulated vibration-damping structure.
• Weight: 8.5 kg.
Core Features
• Full Automation: Supports auto-start, auto-return, and auto-stop. It also includes a record size selector switch to ensure the needle drops accurately on 7, 10, or 12-inch vinyl records.
• Memo-Repeat: A specialized function allowing users to set continuous playback to repeat a record from 1 to 6 times, or indefinitely.
• Spring Suspension: Unlike the earlier SL-1300, the SL-1600 utilizes an internal spring-suspended sub-chassis, isolating the platter and tonearm from foot traffic and external vibrations.
• Platter Off-Switch: The speed selector switch includes a built-in "off" setting between 33 and 45 rpm, allowing users to cut power to the platter while keeping the unit active—ideal for adjusting cartridge tracking force.
