Following the release of his acclaimed Rare Groove Spectrum, Vol. 3, Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and bandleader Lance Ferguson returns with “Cold Bear” - a fiery reinterpretation of The Gaturs’ New Orleans funk classic. The track forms part of an exclusive 7” release alongside Jungle’s cult favourite
“Dominoes”, further extending the Rare Groove Spectrum series in true deep-funk fashion.

“Another example of the more loose, studio-jam approach to a funk classic,” Lance says. “This time the New Orleans killer ‘Cold Bear’.” Staying true to the Rare Groove Spectrum ethos, Lance revives and reshapes deep cuts and cult favourites through raw, live studio sessions that channel the golden age of 1970s funk and soul. His recent takes on “Could Heaven Ever Be Like This,” (Idris Muhammad) “Dominoes,” (Jungle) and “My Future” (Billie Eilish) all showcase this approach - capturing that lived-in, analog warmth where groove and instinct lead the way. “Cold Bear” continues in that spirit: spontaneous yet tight, unpolished but deeply musical, performed by a handpicked collective of Melbourne’s finest players.
